Primary and secondary liver tumours
Liver lesions include primary liver cancers such as hepatocellular carcinoma and intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma, as well as metastases from cancers arising elsewhere. The treatment strategy depends on tumour biology, distribution, underlying liver function and whether all meaningful disease can be treated.
Planning a liver resection
Assessment considers vascular and biliary anatomy, the amount and quality of liver that will remain after surgery, extrahepatic disease and the role of systemic or other liver-directed treatment.
Multidisciplinary treatment
Surgery is one component of liver oncology. Imaging, pathology, oncology and—where relevant—interventional radiology or nuclear medicine may all influence sequencing and selection.
Operative activity
Prof Noel performs an estimated >30 liver resections per year. This is approximate current annual clinical activity and varies from year to year.
